Benefit of meditation And The Power Of Mantras

The benefit of meditation that we typically enjoy today, originate out of an ancient art that dates back thousands of years. This art form has given us the ability to improve our concentration; to manage our stress; and the ability to experience an overall sense of balance to our lives.

So What Is Meditation?

Since yoga is the union of mind body spirit, every type of yoga that is practiced, will include the element of meditation. Meditation draw the mind's attention away from the external world, thereby helping you to focus on what is going on within. This process brings about an inner peacefulness, enabling total mind and body relaxation.

Meditation is the mechanism by which we are able to control the hustle and bustle that's going on in our busy minds. It is a discipline that teaches us how to take back control through the process of deliberately focusing our attention inwards.

A distinct benefit of meditation is that it enables us to achieve calm and peace through either slowing down or eradicating the inner 'NOISE' that is going on within ourselves. Meditation not only help us to make a connection with ourselves, it also helps us to heal and to grow.

Numerous studies have noted the benefits of meditation, including overall improvements in our ability to:

  • Focus
  • Become more perceptive
  • Develop our memory
  • Become more creative
  • Become more self-aware
  • Become more healthy, relaxed and happy

Naturally, the more of the above we can achieve through meditation, the more we open ourselves to the power of our intuition. When we are open, we derive further benefits from enhanced mental functioning; the ability to tap into our internal resources and ultimately, achieving self-actualisation.

    Understanding Mantras

"EVERY matter - from the tiniest DNA strand in us to the largest of continents - is in a state of constant vibration resulting in the emission of subtle sounds".

The great teachers of ancient times had the power to listen to the most subtle of these sounds. They discovered that specific sounds energized particular regions of the brain thereby awakening extraordinary powers (Siddhis). They used these sounds to form sacred words that are called Mantras.

Mantras have a profound impact upon us for two distinct reasons:

    1. The vibration effect of the sound; and

    2. The effect of the collective emotional energy behind that word due to constant repetition over time.

Mantras act upon our bodies by re-programming the vibrations of the cells that have somehow gone askew. They restore the pattern of sounds at the heart of each and every cell, thus pushing the cells toward harmonious health.

Mantras affect not only our physical body but also our subtle body i.e. our emotions, intellect and soul. They positively affect our aura - the energy shields surrounding our body.

Benefit Of Meditation - Mantra Style

Repetition of a Mantra is a powerful way of keeping us in the present and stilling our busy minds, which is forever jumping uncontrollably from one thought to another.

The moment we inculcate the practice of being "intensely" present - neither any baggage of the subconscious past nor the remotest anxiety of the future - we, then,
automatically experience great peace, profound silence and supreme joy! This, in fact, is the process, goal and benefit of meditation. Using mantras is a very effective way to achieve it.

Repetition of a mantra is called Japa and a Japa Mala is a string of beads used to count the repetition of a mantra. The act of turning the beads while recitation of the mantra is extremely effective in keeping you in the present. Equally important is that it keeps you grounded as you advance in meditation and helps you continually gain from the material properties of the beads.
